What is Particle Board?

Particle board is a panel made from wood chips or other lignocellulosic materials that are chipped, flaked, dried, blended with adhesive, formed into mats, and hot-pressed.

Main types include:

Standard Particle Board — fine particles randomly arranged, lower strength, mainly for furniture
OSB (Oriented Strand Board) — long strands oriented crosswise, much higher strength than standard particle board
Homogeneous Particle Board — finer, more uniform particles with higher density and strength

The common "melamine board" or "lacquer-free board" is usually particle board or MDF laminated with melamine-impregnated paper.

Melamine Board

Melamine-Faced Particle Board

The common "melamine board" or "lacquer-free board" is usually particle board (or MDF) laminated with melamine-impregnated decorative paper.

Paint-free — surface finish is already applied, no painting required
Rich colors — wood grain, stone pattern, solid colors and more
Wear-resistant — hard surface resists scratches in daily use
Cost-effective — economical choice for panel furniture
